Officer Coronel and K9 Joey
Joey was born Sep 5, 2021 in the Bay Area. He is a Dutch Shepherd. Prior to being a police service dog, he received some bite work training in Mississippi, then he made his way back to the Bay Area. Joey is a high-drive dog that likes to work and is also very social. He is patrol-certified and is certified in firearm detection.
Joey's handler is Oxnard Police Department Officer Ignacio Coronel, who is also new to the K-9 Unit. Prior to becoming an officer in 2015, Ignacio was an Oxnard Police Explorer and Property and Evidence Unit Community Service Officer. Since promoting to Oxnard P.D. Officer, he has been a Patrol Officer, Explorer Advisor, Bike Officer, Central Business District Officer... and he is excited for his new assignment with his new partner, K-9 Officer Joey!
Joey was named after Joey Herrick owner of Lucy Pet Foods, who has been a strong supporter of the Oxnard Police K-9 Unit for over 15 years.
